Cabin Living Inspiration

We love the idea of cabin-living. It’s the best of both worlds: you’re surrounded by nature but have access to the amenities of home (we prefer cabins with electricity, plumbing, and a bit of insulation, of course). Wooden walls, tight spaces, and the great outdoors are also wonderful starting points for some unique interior decor ideas – a lot of which can be found in our favorite bedrooms and living spaces below! Now that autumn and winter are on the horizon, we thought it would be a great idea to take inspiration from these unique cabin settings.

Here’s what comes to my mind when we think of a classic cabin bedroom: wooden walls, a stone fireplace, lots of wooden furniture, rustic accessories, and beautiful greenery right outside the windows.

This is quite the modern and minimalist update to the traditional cabin look. We love how bright and open this space feels due to the white walls, ceilings, and floors. This bedroom featured in House and Home would work great within a summer getaway home either in the forest or at the seaside. It would feel like sleeping in a cloud!

Rustic meets boho-chic in this quirky bedroom. The sheer curtains and mix-and-match bedding adds a youthful personality to the room while bales of hay (yes, the bed is made out of hay!) definitely brings on the interest and intrigue.

What a simple but charming children’s room seen on House and Leisure! The patchwork quilts are definitely the stars of the show here – instantly bringing color, comfort, and a sense of home into the neutral space.

The dark, warm tones here make us think of autumn evenings. Imagine laying within this screened porch bedroom with views of the starry night sky and the sounds of the wind in the trees. How magical!

Sandra Foster turned a Catskills hunting cabin into the romantic Victorian cottage she had always wanted. It’s truly a nature’s getaway fit for a princess. White and pastels are the central colors for creating this dream-like escape in the middle of the woods.

Here’s a great example of how mixing old and new pieces can work: Vintage rugs give the polished floors some dimension while crisp white sheets create a clean and airy sleeping atmosphere. A streamlined electric ceiling fan lights up the entire room while individual lanterns provide some twinkle late at night. This modern bedroom from Style at Home gets everything right!

Another great example of mix-and-match bedding. We love the moody, enclosed feel that the wall color adds to the room — perfect for creating that cozy space to warm up in during the chilly winter months. The shaggy fur rug is a great touch.

This could easily be one of the sets within a movie set in the 1930s. It’s casual and uncluttered with only the necessities being present. Great work from Dave Coote!

One of the great things about cabins is that they’re usually small spaces so storage becomes a challenge with unique results. Here, hooks hold kitchen essentials that themselves double as home accessories. A long bench doubles as a cozy resting place and a multi-person dining chair!

The play of prints and patterns gives this cabin living room loads of visual interest. Throw pillows and blankets draped on every place to sit invite you to get cozy next to the fireplace. This scene has us wishing winter would come sooner!
